October News

How is is possible that September is already behind us? There may be a new chill in the air but things are really heating up in our portable! The grade 2's are beginning to establish routines and demonstrate some very good learning which is wonderful to see!

We are soon wrapping up our Number Sense unit  that has meant working with numbers to 50. We have been learning to represent numbers in a variety of ways and develop a greater understanding of fact families. Be sure to talk with your child about the math they are learning in class. Practice simple addition and subtraction facts often and count forwards and backwards by 1's, 2's, 5's and 10's to keep their skills sharp!

Our language work has been largely centered around the formation of simple sentences and the correct use of conventions such as capitals and end marks. At this early stage of grade 2 many students require much practice with letter formation as well. Encourage your child to write often at home to reinforce these skills.

***PLEASE REMEMBER PHOTO DAY***

Today a note was sent home regarding a slight change to our photo day this coming WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 5th.
As I will be away with our cross country team, students will only have individual portraits taken this week. On November 4th, we will have our class photo taken so that I can join the kids for our picture!
