NUMERACY: Over the last couple of weeks we have been working on our second unit in math: Data Management. Your child has been learning how to gather, sort, display and analyse data. Students have been learning about Venn Diagrams, Pictographs and Bar Graphs. Over these next several days you may receive some practice material to work on with your child. Ask them about what they are learning about and encourage them to use math language as best they can!
There is still a fair amount of material to cover in this unit. We will likely have a quiz on our unit towards the end of the first week of November.

HOME READING: Our home reading folders came home today for the first time! Each child will be sent home with a couple of short texts each week. Please take the time to listen to your child read  every evening. This should only take 15 minutes. Have your child read the same book several times out loud to you over a span of a few days. While the words may seem quite easy, we are trying to increase fluency which can take time and requires much practice. Ask questions about what they have read to ensure comprehension. Make sure they are attending to punctuation and using appropriate intonation as well.
**Please record titles on the reading log included in the folder and keep the log with the books at all times. Books will be exchanged once they have been returned on Thursday or Friday of each week. This is a very important part of your child's learning, and they love an audience!

SPELLING: Every Monday our weekly words will be recorded in the agenda. Please ensure that your child is working with these words often through the week. We will complete and activity sheet in class, and students will be tested on their recall of these words each Friday.
